New Stuff for Take Care of Your Share

Here are some of the things we have done lately.

Contacted the offices of every state government to ask them to send me links to organizations that I could add to the Take Care of Your Share website. Only about three have answered so far and some of them told me that they don't HAVE any organizations that teach people how to Take Care of Their Share of the environment. So then I had to search the net and find my own links and I have started creating some of the pages.

Created a page listing every country from which someone has visited the site, asking them to send me any links they find in their searches. http://www.takecareofyourshare.com/country.shtml

Joined a lot of affiliate programs so that you can shop for green products RIGHT from the Take Care of Your Share website. (small percentage of each sale goes to Take Care of Your Share program). See scrollbar on right hand side of any page: http://www.takecareofyourshare.com/index.shtml

Contacted the Community Foundation of Brevard to see if they would give me grant so that I could apply for 501c status. I was told no. They only give grants to organizations that already have 501c status.

Created a page for Take Care of Your Share on Facebook

Created a page for Take Care of Your Share on MySpace

Created a page for Take Care of Your Share on Architects of a New Dawn

Created a page for Take Care of Your Share on Linked In

Created a page for Take Care of Your Share on AARP

Delaware Big on Environmental Protection!

In 2007 I created a central website with the goal of providing links to various government sites that provide information for citizens that want to Take Care of Their Share of the environment. http://www.takecareofyourshare.com/about.shtml

As the recent trend towards environmental stewardship has begun to bring more visitors to the site, I have revamped my efforts to update the pages, listing groups within each state that provide environmental information to their citizens.

On Tuesday, February 3rd, I sent email messages to contacts from every state asking them for assistance in creating a page for their state.

Delaware was the first state to respond, as a representative from the Delaware Department of Natural Resources sent a very long list of organizations within the state that provide environmental information.

I did a little further searching and quickly began to realize that the state of Delaware has many wonderful sources of environmental information for their citizens.

I think it is a critical time to have this information available to the citizens of the United States and I appreciate your help in compiling this information. We now have a president that is encouraging people to take responsibility for their own actions and I can already see a huge increase in the number of people that are looking for ways to take action.

Take Care of Your Share Petition

Over the last two centuries, we have witnessed unprecedented ecological deterioration, including the thinning of the ozone layer, global warming, pollution of air, land, and water, daily extinction of plant and animal species, continuing destruction of vast portions of the world's wildlife habitat and loss of vital agricultural land.

Scientific research continues to show that the causes of these problems are not just global ones but individual ones as well.

Our country was founded on the democratic principles of personal freedom and independence. Those personal freedoms and that independence have resulted in a prosperous nation in which 60% of the land in this country (over 1.4 billion acres) is privately owned.

As property owners, each of us has the opportunity to affect not just the environmental health of our land, but because of the interconnectedness of all land and all species, the continued health of the entire planet. However, many individual citizens do not have the scientific knowledge required to guide us to make the best environmental choices for our homes and lands.

The mission of a government is to prepare its citizens to meet the significant contemporary challenges and the future issues of our society and to instill in them a strong personal commitment to social and environmental responsibility. Such obligations require both example and instruction.

Therefore, we, the undersigned, urge the officials of national, state and local governments to join in to create a Take Care of Your Share campaign; a concerted effort to educate and encourage their citizens to Take Care of Their Share of the environment – their own homes and yards.

Through this campaign, we ask that you draw together the scientific knowledge available from the various environmental departments and educational facilities within our community to create on-line or other means of educational resources so that our citizens can make sound environmental choices.

We ask for your help and encouragement in learning to restore the natural beauty of our great land while supporting a clean and safe environment for future generations.
We ask for the opportunity to change our own behaviors and embrace new alternatives for living in our environment.

We ask that you help us to work as individuals and as a community to minimize inappropriate practices and implement positive contributions to the health of our environment and our community;

We ask that you examine our community’s own environmental practices to assure that we are minimizing our negative impact on the environment and setting a good example as environmentally responsible citizens in a world that requires increasing understanding and sensitivity to the environmental issues that face mankind.

Further, we request that you proclaim the month April 2009 Take Care of Your Share month to remind all citizens of the United States that Freedom means Choice, and with their Independence comes the opportunity to make the right choices for the environmental health of our country.

Help us preserve what we share together - our land, water, and air. Help us learn to Take Care of Our Share.

Now is the time to Take Care of Your Share

The Take Care of Your Share website was started in 2007 in an effort to educate and encourage all citizens of the country to Take Care of Their Share of the environment. For over a year, the website generated minimal traffic.

In 2009, with the encouragement of a new president that is influencing us all to help do our part for this country, more and more people are visiting the site to learn what they can do for our environment.

We are constantly on the lookout for new information to link to this site. Please send all suggestions to: backyarder1@earthlink.net
